Nichole D.
Albuquerque, New Mexico

I currently live in New Mexico with my boyfriend and beautiful daughter in The Retro Palace. I'm currently a student double-majoring in Cosmetology and Architectural Drafting. I spend what little free time I have knitting, crocheting, sewing, and almost any other project I have time for. I do occasionally eat and shower, but only if there is no knitting to be done.

Favorite Things

I Saw this over at My Knitting and Me, and thought it would be good, mindless fluff while I finish my holiday knitting. Play along if you want to!

Favorite Yarn: Most definitely Malabrigo! Buttery soft, gorgeous colors, awesome price for the yardage. The new Silky Wool is to die for, as well. Yummy stuff.

Favorite Needles: I love the Takumi bamboo short needles and dpn's. I love the feel and weight of bamboo needles! I also have a very special place in my heart for the nickel-plated KnitPicks Options, too.

Favorite New Pattern: Jeanie, hands down. That thing is friggin' gorgeous. I can hardly wait to make it!

Favorite Project: I loved making my Clapotis. I'll definitely be making more of them! Foliage was a great one, too. Oh, and Fetching!

Favorite Knitting Blog: Oh, I can't pick just one....My top three are Cashmere Blend, The Chemgrrl Chronicles, and Lick My Sticks.

Favorite New Technique: Ooooh, needle felting! I think it's so much fun. A great way to get out some aggression, as well, just watch out for fingers.

Favorite New Website: Uh, Ravelry. Duh.

Favorite Knitting Book: I love the One Skein book. I've made a few things out of it, and the projects are great as gifts.

Favorite Knitting Spot: Well, here at home, I generally knit on the couch, although when it was warmer out, I loved to knit on the balcony.

Favorite Knitting Partner: I love all the girls at Stitch n' Bitch, but my favorite person to knit with is definitely Erin. You all rock my face off, though!

Let me know if you do it, as well!

Fun Times

My sister has been in town since Saturday morning, and I've been having a blast with her! Shopping, good food, snowboarding, and hair dye have all played their part these past few days, and boy do I have some funny crap to tell you guys. Well, I think it's funny, at least. Knitting has been almost non-existent, and I really need to get cranking and finish the very few bits I have left! packages need to get mailed, and I've given up hope (once again) on doing Christmas cards. Even though this is my favorite time of year, I'm a little stressed. On that note, I'm leaving you guys with yet another LOLcat- this one, though, totally reflects my feelings today. See you soon!

Finished Knits

I have a ton of finished stuff to show you guys! I've been cranking on the Christmas knitting, and a few things for myself, as well. No effin' around, let's get right to the pictures.

First thing, here's the new scarf I mentioned in this post:

Malabrigo Seed Stitch Scarf

Malabrigo Seed Stitch Scarf 2

I used one skein of Malabrigo in the Little Lovely colorway. The scarf is done in seed stitch, which while fiddly, I love! This scarf rocks my face off. It was a quick, fun knit, and I love the texture and how it plays with the yarn. YUM!

Next up, the Braided Cable Gauntlets I've been working on for ages. I finished them over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I think one is floating around the car somewheres...

Cabled Gauntlets

Braided Cable Detail

They're really cute, no? Warm and toasty, too. my only complaint is the they're not long enough in the fingers area. I may make these again someday, and I'll fix that. The braided cable is deceptively easy- It looks so complicated, but really isn't any harder than a normal 3x3 cable. Some of you have no idea what that means, and that's okay. I still love you.

Next up, some Christmas gifties. I made a slightly adapted pair of Fetching gloves for my sister-in-law:

Fetching

I really love the color- you can't really tell from my crappy picture, but they're a gorgeous heathered light blue-grey color. I made them longer in the wrist and in the fingers for extra coverage, because that was my one complaint with my pair.

Next on the list, I decided to venture into felting my knits, and made some stylin' hot pads for my aunt-in-law, who is really more like my mother-in-law, bless her heart. I decided to hand felt, because I wanted more control over the felting, and besides, I'm still really scared to throw wool into a washing machine. Anyways, the first I knit on 2 needles, then seamed up and felted:

The second, which I love, I just knit a big rectangle, felted it, and then decided to try my hand at some needle felting:

Here's a close-up of the corners:

I really had a blast with the needle felting- I can see it easily becoming my new addiction. It's really cool to see what you can do with it. I'm pretty stoked at how my very first project came out, too. I also have almost three of four of my Christmas hats done, too. Maybe I can squeeze in a few more knitted gifts this year. Or I could gouge out my eyes with knitting needles. We'll just have to wait and see...

Some Ramblings of Randomness

My arms hurt from exercising, so not too much out of me today.

First thing: Why is it that they call it "word verification" (for comments and such) when it's not really words, just a random mashing of letters?

B: I hate people who put Christmas lights on outdoor trees but don't go all the way to the top of the tree. (or vice versa). This is so friggin' ugly.

Fourth thing: This is my 201st post. Woo!

And because pirates rock (much more than ninjas), and kitties are cute:

P.S. I'm going to go through all of my posts and start adding tags. Yay! I hope y'all are excited, because I'm really doing it for you, dammit.

To My Love...

Dear Hubbster:

Today is our very first official anniversary. A year ago, we were in the courthouse, saying our vows. Not very romantic, I know, but I was just excited to be your wife. That's all that mattered. I love you so much, and I am still excited every morning I wake up to be so lucky to have you for my husband. Yeah, sure, you're not perfect, but neither am I. I love you, though, and I always will.

Our life together has grown so much in the last few years, and I'm excited to see what comes next. Happy First Anniversary, babe, and plenty more, I'm sure! I love you.

Love, Nichole
