Nichole D.
Albuquerque, New Mexico

I currently live in New Mexico with my boyfriend and beautiful daughter in The Retro Palace. I'm currently a student double-majoring in Cosmetology and Architectural Drafting. I spend what little free time I have knitting, crocheting, sewing, and almost any other project I have time for. I do occasionally eat and shower, but only if there is no knitting to be done.

Ten on Tuesday

This week's Ten on Tuesday is supposed to be your Ten Favorite Movie Villains, but I can hardly think of one! Instead I'll be doing last week's topic...

Ten Events That Should be in the Olympics

1. Speed knitting. How much fun would it be to watch this and hear the commentary?
2. Toddler Wrangling. You'd get low marks for crying or pulling out your hair.
3. Knife Throwing. I just think this would be fun to watch, really.
4. SCA-style Fighting. Those guys are bad ass.
5. Hide and Seek
6. Pizza Dough Tossing
7. Bowling
8. Curling, just because it's my favorite Winter Olympics sport and I'd like to be able to watch it more than once every four years.
9. Sheep/Alpaca Shearing
10. Egg Balancing Relay. you know, egg goes on a spoon, you try to walk as fast as you can without it falling off...

Trying to blog more. See you soon!

The Color, not the Flower

you are orchid
#DA70D6

Your dominant hues are red and blue. You're confident and like showing people new ideas. You play well with others and can be very influential if you want to be.

Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

Seen around bloglandia quite a bit, most recently at Monster Crochet and Twitchysticks (formerly Crochet all Day). What color are you?

Ten Inventions That Have Made Life Easier

1. Sewing machines.
2. Electric sanders- my coffee table would stay exactly the way it was without it!
3. The internet- I love having a wealth of knowledge and entertainment and everything right at my fingertips.
4. Digital cameras. It is so nice to be able to take tons of pictures, and only print the ones that are actually good, instead of the crap-shoot we had to deal with with traditional film.
5. Indoor plumbing. 'Nuff said.
6. Modern printing. I love being able to collect books and have access to so many of them.
7. Diapers. I can't even imagine what life would be like with non-disposable diapers.
8. Dishwashers.
9. Can openers.
10. Crock Pots. Seriously, I don't know what I would do without it sometimes.

Obviously, I left out some of the "duh" ones, like electricity and cars. Anyways, see you tomorrow!

Ten on Tuesday

I don't really like this week's topic for ten on Tuesday, so I thought I would do my own.

Ten Things That Make Me Really Happy

1. The Monsterette's laugh.
2. My Hubbster.
3. finishing a project- be it knitting, crochet, sewing, etc.
4. Not having to clean.
5. Driving with the windows down, the music cranked, all by myself, and jamming out.
6. Talking to my mom and sister almost every day.
7. Sweets!
8. Learning something new, and being good at it!
9. How awesome my friends are, even the just-online ones.
10. My new swanky top-of-the-line Sonicare toothbrush my mom got me. Practically effortless, and leaves my teeth SUPAH-CLEAN! I love it.

Another Meme

I've seen this all over Bloglandia, most recently at JP's. So, here goes.

The Rules:

Rules are posted at the beginning. At the end of the post, the player tags 6 people and posts their names. Then the player goes to each of the “named” people’s blogs and leaves a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. If you’ve been tagged, you do the same, letting the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer. Your answer, of course, is the answer to the following questions. Here we go!

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

Ah, jeez. Ten years ago, I was getting close to that magical age of 14, and getting ready to go into high school. That was the summer I worked for a company called Tree Trust, and we built two observation decks in the park, overlooking the river. Yes, with our own hands. I was buff and tan at the end of that summer!

2. 5 things on my to-do list today:

1. Take some pictures.
2. Go to the grocery store.
3. Work on my sewing.
4. More prep work for the Serenity RPG adventure I'll be running on Saturday (my first time GMing! Eeek!)
5. The usual cleaning.

3. Snacks I enjoy:

Hmmm. Well, I've been trying to eat healthier, so snacks are things like carrots, low-fat granola bars, yogurt, and fruit. The ones I really enjoy, though, are things like chips (honey mustard Pringles, and Sweet Spicy Chili Doritos, anyone?), ice cream, Cool Whip, anything dipped in chocolate...

4. Places I've lived:

Minneapolis, Minnesota
St. Paul, Minnesota
Cedar, Minnesota
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexico

5. Things I would do if I was a billionaire:

I did this for a Ten on Tuesday not too long ago, and heres that list. That one was a selfish list, though, and really, I'd put money away for the Monsterette's education, buy my parents a nice home to retire in, Give to friends and family and charities. I'd like to find a good cause to back, too, like sponsoring inner city sports teams or something like that.

You all know I don't tag, so if you want to do it, go ahead!

I'm going to answer some questions everyone has asked me about the no 'poo thing tomorrow. See you then!

Ten on Tuesday

Ten Ways the World has Changed Since I was in School

1. The dress. Is it just me, or are the prostitots all the rage now? The girls seem to dress more and more provocative.
2. Piercings. When I got my tongue pierced in tenth grade, it was still very punk, as were a lot of the other less common piercings.
3. Text messaging. Most of the kids in school with me did have cell phones, but this whole texting craziness has gotten INSANE.
4. Blogging.
5. The "green" movement.
6. All the crazy flight restrictions, like the liquids thing (9/11 happened in my senior year).
7. Technology- flat screen HD TVs, digital cameras, blu-ray, all the good stuff.
8. Politics. Isn't it kind of crazy to think that we'll either have a black man or a female as the Democratic presidential candidate?
9. Gas prices. Holy shit is about all I can say about that.
10. Really, the biggest way the world has changed since school is that now I look at it through a mother's eyes.

See you tomorrow!

Ten on Tuesday

We're back! The trip was good, but more on that later. I'll try to start getting blog posts from the trip up soon. For now, you get my Ten on Tuesday!

Ten Things I'm Really Good At

1. Knitting! I like to think I'm a pretty bitchin' knitter. More to learn, though!
2. Driving. Especially for long periods of time. Learned that this weekend!
3. Being a mom.
4. Cribbage
5. Cutting hair. I went to school for this, but I don't have a license yet.
6. Making coffee. Not just coffee in the morning, but all those awesome drinks you get at a coffee shop. I had one guy tell me I made the best bone-dry cappuccino he ever had.
7. Organizing things. I may not be a great cleaner, but I rock the organization.
8. Listening.
9. Putting things together. You know all that crap you buy from the store in a box, and you open it and pour out all the parts? I love that stuff!
10. Amateur photography. I know I'm not great, but I think I'm a step above a lot pf the point-and-shooters out there.

Ten on Tuesday

Ten Superstitions, Traditions, and/or Personality Quirks

1. I can't read/listen to more than one book at a time, no matter how different. I'll always get plot points and characters mixed up.
2. I sort my colored candies (M&M's, Skittles, jelly beans) and will eat them either in order of least to most by color, or least favorite to most favorite.
3. When I shower, I do everything in a specific order.
4. I'm convinced that being preggers with a girl is the only reason I like pink so much now.
5. If I get a new CD, I first listen to the beginning of all the songs, then listen to the CD all the way through.
6. I'm not very neat, but I am extremely organized. I like things to be categorized or in some kind of specific order.
7. In relation to number six, I hate when there is more than one row of icons on my computer desktop. The Hubbster gets kind of crabby, because I'll move things around all the time.
8. I love to roll change by hand.
9. I have a bit of an obsession with symmetry. It's really hard to take into account that balance in things does not always mean it's symmetrical.
10. When I go into book stores, I can't help but straighten out stacks and shelves of books so they look neat. I'm not sure if this comes from working in a book store, or if it's just me being crazy.

Yeah, I'm a little obsessive-compulsive. Can you tell?

2. My husband. He really is a great guy.
3. Having awesome friends.

5. Being blessed with a wonderful family- my mom, sister, brother, dad, etc.
6. My knitting gals at the weekly Sn'B.
7. My adventurous spirit- and the fact that the Hubbster has it, too.
8. The awesome people I've met through blogs and Ravelry.
9. The every day things that may seem mundane, like doing the dishes and laundry and cleaning. I may not love doing them, but I'm really grateful that we have the means for me to be a stay-at-home mom. Part of me loves being a "housewife".
10. Those few precious moments of total silence in the house, when I can take a nap, read a book, or knit in peace. These moments help me maintain sanity.

You all know I don't tag, so I'm just going to guilt five of you into doing it. There. If you read that last line, and you haven't done it yet, consider yourself obligated and guilted. HA!

Hey y'all. I thought I'd give you guys the answers to the movies you didn't guess on that meme I did, in case you were curious.

3. The Simpsons Movie. Friggin' hilarious! I totally loved this movie.

6. Black Sheep. Another great flick with Chris Farley and David Spade.

10. What About Bob?. This movie rocks my face off. Go see it, if you haven't!

Alrighty, I'm off to watch a movie with the Hubbster and do a bit of knitting. The mojo has made a bit of return, with much pleading, begging, bribing, and finally, forcing. Progress pics soon!

I Hope you all had a great weekend!

Ten on Tuesday

This week's theme is "Ten Things to do Before You get Married". I'm not really feeling that. Instead, I'm going to do this meme I got from Carole. I figured it would be more fun, and it sticks with the "ten" theme. Here's the low-down- have fun guessing, guys!

1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie (or from memory).
3. Post them on your blog for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. Looking them up is cheating, please don’t.

1. My nerves are shot. This is a catastrophe! What would her father say? I'll tell you what her father'd say. He'd say he's gonna kill himself a crab, that's what her father'd say! Leigh got this one! The Little Mermaid- one of my all time favorite movies.

2. Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you. Leigh got this one, too- Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

3. We have a great life here in Alaska, and we're never going back to America again!

4. I'll tell you what he said! He told me to forcibly insert the lifeline exercises into my anus! Blogless Sean got this one. (Hi, Sean, glad you still read.) It's from Donnie Darko- a great movie. Everyone should see this.

5. The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times. Way to go, Katie! One of my favorite lines from Tommy Boy.

6. Raving psycho! Butchered 400 chickens and screwed a beagle. I'm taking him back to Nevada where he's wanted for banging horses!

7. Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped. Another one for Leigh! This one's The Princess Bride.

8. Chancho. When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room. It's for fun. Diane was right- it's Nacho Libre!

9. Well, then, I confess, it is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasely black guts out. Diane got this one, too- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

10. So what you're saying is that even though you are an almost-paralyzed, multiphobic personality who is in a constant state of panic, your wife did not leave you, you left her because she loves Neil Diamond?
